Meet Richard Barrett...

A remarkable man with 40 years of horse dealing & training experience...

Richard Barrett is the owner of Radwell farm. He has spent over 40 years working with horses. Over those 40 years Richard Barrett has acquired a unique set of skills in backing, breaking and selling horses.

Losing your sight can be and advantage dealing with horses

Richard lost his sight around 10 years to a hereditary condition, amazingly he continues to work and school horses. Many people would find blindness a severe hindrance to their work, however Richard believes it gives him a unique perspective when dealing with horses enabling him to work with feeling and instinct alone, which is a great way to gain your horses trust.

Richard tailors his breaking and schooling methods to the individual horse rather than trying to bend the horse to his will as he believes this way you get the best from your horse and allow it to reach it's full potential.

Richard is well known for his sixth sense when it comes to matching the 'right horse with the right person'.

Richard, now 61, has reduced the time he spends in the fields and his yard but he still sits on the youngsters first during the breaking process and is as hands on in the running of the farm as he can.

Richard also has a great love or interest in Horse Racing with strong ties to his son Dickie Barrett, who currently rides for Caroline Bailey. To find out more go to www.carolinebaileyracing.co.uk
